Hello, my name is Luke Woodruff.
I was born in the great state of Alaska where I learned to fish and hunt at an early age. At age seven, I was on a fishing trip with my dad and a fly fishing buddy of his to one of our local lakes. Dad's friend strung his fly rod and opened an empty snuff can filled with dry flies. I was enthralled with the detail of theses tiny lures made of fur and feathers. I couldn't believe they actually looked like little mosquitoes! The rest of the day was spent watching tiny trout inhale the dry fly I borrowed and dangled off of my Diawa spinning rod.
What started as a casual hike-in fishing trip turned into the makings of a life-long, fly-fishing obsession. I began guiding fly fishermen in 1998 during the spring, summer, and fall months as a way to support my outdoor habits and to provide some income for the long, cold, Juneau winters. In 2004 I received my "6-pack" captain's license from the U.S. Coast Guard and decided to go into business for myself. Fly-fishing is not just a hobby of mine but a life style.
I currently reside in Juneau year-round, where I live with my wife, Sarah, son Owen and Labrador Retriever, "Dolly". In the off-season I'll likely be found somewhere in the wilds of Alaska keeping an eye on our big game populations.
